Chicago–Day 5

On our last day we headed out for doughnuts.  I think we found the best doughnut place in the city.  These were amazing!!!

We went to the Children’s museum for the morning before catching our train later that afternoon.

I didn’t realize how strong Hayden was! Smile

Addyson climbed up the net tunnel but then got scared when she had to go across to the other side.  Grant had to go in after her and rescued her.

They had an incredible building area.  Grand and Hayden hung out together building two separate things.  Grant was building a skyscraper and Hayden was building a space ship.

Addyson and I were behind them building with wood.  She build the fort learning how to use tools and the correct way to build.  We had a blast and stayed her for about forty-five minutes.

We then headed to the water room.  I thought it was cool that they had rain coats for the kids to wear.  Even though we all cam out pretty wet.

IMG_2044

Addyson found a play kitchen where she was making popcorn like her Dede.

We had an amazing time in Chicago and would go back anytime.  It was good to get away for a few days.

Chicago–Day 4

It was my intention to take a cab to Lincoln Park but Grant thought if we walked two miles yesterday then we could do the two miles there and the two miles back. That was the best decision because we could walk along the beach for a good part of the walk.  You can see in the kids face they could have stayed there all day.

We did finally make it to the zoo.  I loved that it was free and that you could walk in at several different points.

It was a gorgeous day outside and was so much fun walking around looking at animals.  The gorillas were a crowd pleaser.  The baby gorilla was adorable and I could have watched them for a lot longer.

I think these pictures are hilarious.

The kids found a place to climb and have fun.  Unfortunately, right after they started climbing a school group came in .  I don’t think I have been on the other side of a field trip.  It wasn’t fun. Smile

All the places to eat in the park were closed for the season so we decided to walk back and eat a big lunch/supper at the cheesecake factory.  I took a picture of our dessert because it was huge and delicious.

I think the four plus miles we walked that day worn most of us out!

Chicago–Day 3

We started our morning off with a trip to Walgreens to get snacks aka breakfast.  These snacks lasted us the next two mornings.  We then took our second cab of the trip to the aquarium.  IMG_1871

We got there just a few minutes before they opened so we took some crazy pictures with the Chicago skyline in the background.

IMG_1873IMG_1886

Hayden was super excited about this day because we would get to see sharks.  We sat down and watched them for awhile.  IMG_1888

Thought it was funny that both of the next two pictures the animal/cute girls were posing for pictures.

After the aquarium we decided to walk the two miles back to our hotel.  Along the way we were able to stop at two places I really wanted to see.  Our first stop was Grant Park.

IMG_1941

We had trouble getting around the park because they were getting ready for the Chicago marathon that was to take place that weekend.  We finally did make it to the fountain. It was pretty impressive.

IMG_1947

We then made our way to Millennium Park.  By this point the kids were tired of walking but we had only gone half of the way.  Luckily I had a small snack for them to give them the energy to make it all the way back.

IMG_1952

In this park we visited the Bean.  It was fun to take pictures and goof off.

IMG_1976

As we continued to walk back to our hotel there was a Starbucks lady handing out  free samples of an iced coffee drink.  She promised there was no caffeine so we grabbled it continued on our way.

IMG_1961IMG_1974

For supper this night we hit a local hotdog place call Downtown Dogs.  We grabbed the food to go and ate in our hotel room.  The hotdogs were good but their french fries were the best!!

Chicago–Day 2

Our first full day in Chicago we took it pretty easy and went to the Navy Pier.  We walked pretty much everywhere we went.  On our way to the pier we stopped and ate breakfast at Yolk.  It was delicious.  I have cinnamon roll waffles while the kids had a small sampler platter.  Grant was good and had oatmeal.

IMG_1910

We are early birds and got the pier early but we enjoyed walking around and looking at everything.  Hayden tried to carry Addyson but that smile she wearing quickly disappeared when he dropped her.

It was very cold this morning so Addyson and I bought some hats to keep warm.  They were well used the entire time we were there.

IMG_1844

After hats were purchased we found our boat that we were going to take a tour on.

IMG_1845

IMG_1846

We were able to see the light house and a great view of the city.  We were able to sit up top of the boat for about half of the trip before the kids got to cold and we went below.

IMG_1851

Since we had such a big breakfast we stopped and got a snack at Garrett’s popcorn for lunch.  This was very good popcorn!!

IMG_1853

After our quick snack we rode on the Ferris wheel, the carousel, and played a round of putt putt.  I will admit that Grant beat us all at golf.

Since we skipped lunch we had a nice supper at a restaurant called Mighty Nice.  I had some really good Kale soup.  The service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice as well.  We really enjoyed ourselves here.
