A few weeks ago we headed to Paducah to pick out Hayden’s first Pinewood Derby car. Grant got in the spirit and picked one out for himself too. In the end he put his back because he figured by the time he finished with Hayden’s he wouldn’t want to put his together. I think he made a wise decision.
Here is the finished product. We headed to the derby a little early today to weight his car and put on some finishing touches.
Hayden was the first one to race. He raced his buddy Blake. His car started off really well but slowed down before finishing. After the first round of races Grant made some adjustments and he did end the day winning one of his heats.
Addyson passed the time by making friends with some of my former students. Here she climbed up in one of their mother’s laps and got an art lesson. She is a wonderful artist and was so kind to play with Addyson.
Here is Hayden with his trophy from today. We all learned a lot about what we can do to improve next year. Grant already has ideas on how he wants to change the car.
There were only a few tiger cubs that showed up today. Over all though I would say there were close to 25 cubs that participated.
