Well, I am a very impatient person. Very impatient and controlling. These are probably two of my greatest faults, and adotion seems to bring out both of these things in me. I want to know what is happening in my case and when it is going to happen. In this adoption I don't know either. I have not been told the next step until we are doing it and never told clearly how long it is going to take.
Monday, I email my social worker asking her if she had any update at all. She did not but offered to check with our placement agency (which is in Detroit). They said that it should be 3-4 months after referral acceptance (which is Nov. 21). This was very disappointing since each step of the way they keep telling me that this is happening super fast.
So, here comes my impatience coming out. I know that I can call the US embassy in South Korea to check on my status, I just have to get the phone number and figure out this whole time (day) change thing. South Korea is fourteen hours ahead of us. All I had to do was a little research on the internet. So last night at around 7:30 I get the nerve to place this call. I didn't know what to expect but the hope that they could give me some concrete information.
After waiting on the line for about five to ten minutes for a live person to answer the sweetest lady answers. She asks for my case number and child's name. She tries to help me pronounce Jesso Park correctly but I am not very good at speaking Korean. Shen then informs me that Korea has a quota of children that can be adopted each year and that they met that quota in Novemeber for 2009. That mean that there have been adoption cases sitting on someones desk for TWO MONTHS just waiting for the new year. Luckly, our's has only been there for about two weeks. Since it is the new year she said they have started processing cases again (which is the only good news so far). She gave me some advice and said goodbye. No luck on getting any concrete information again.
So still not satisfied I email my social worker again telling her about the quota. She knew they had a quota but didn't know that the 2009 quota had been met. She did say once again that things were moving and that she thought she would be able to "hopefully quite soon" tell us when we will be traveling. Now all I have to do is figure out what SOON means. Any suggestions?!?!
